PRESS STATEMENT: SUSTAINABLE HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION IS KEY TO CHOLERA PREVENTION AND CONTROL

 Sunday 23 June, 2024 Dr. Iziak Kunle Salako, the Honourable Minister of State for Environment. The Federal Ministry of Environment is deeply concerned about the ongoing cholera outbreak in some states of Nigeria which has tragically claimed many lives and affected many communities. Recent situation report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) indicated a total number of 1159 suspected cases, 65 confirmed cases and 30 deaths across 30 States. The States most affected, contributing 90% of the total cases includes, Bayelsa, Lagos, Zamfara, Abia, Bauchi, Cross River, Ebonyi, Delta and Katsina.  2. Against this background, the Federal Ministry of Environment has been actively involved through the Department of Pollution Control and Environmental Health and the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria in activities to break  further transmission of the deadly disease through water and food testing to identify sources of infection, environmental sanitation

Mr President’s misstep happened because he is human like all of us: No big deal

Agba'kin' Wale Junaid  It is pettiness taken to its apogee when I read Atiku Abubakar taunting our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, over his mild misstep while boarding a parade vehicle at the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations in Abuja earlier today.  Yes, Mr. President missed his steps while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. Every Nigerian knows that Mr. President had a knee surgery sometimes in 2021 which may make him susceptible to missing his steps.  The most important thing is that Mr. President immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds and completed the activities for the day looking very fit, lively, hale and hearty.
