IGBOGILA STAKEHOLDERS ENDS INTERNAL RIFT, SETTLES FOR PEACE

Image
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela once posited that “Peace is not just the absence of conflict; peace is the creation of an environment where all can flourish regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, class, caste or any other social markers of difference.” It was on this premise that all the people that matters in Igbogila Yewa gathered on Saturday 5th October 2024 to make peace among the warring parties. The peace and reconciliation meeting was championed by the Igbogila Stakeholders Development Forum and was well attended by the traditional, political and religious leaders of the town with an attempt to put an end to internal wrangling which has been bedeviling the town for years.   The genesis of the rift could be traced to the controversial suspension of some Chiefs, instituting of court case/court order and probe of the traditional council’s financial records. The matter became worse when the race of enthroning the new King of the town began which was necessitated by the pas

A TALE OF THREE RULING HOUSES

Image
In the town of Ariwoòdọlà, there are three families namely; Gbádéṣeré, Jọláadé and Wojúadé who are entitled to rule over the affairs of the town. The two (Gbádéṣeré and Jọláadé) out of the three ruling houses always struck deal between themselves which have paved the way for them to be rotating power on the basis of four and eight years respectively. All this while, they left out their third family aloof. For 48 years, the third family never knew the secret of the deal between the other two families and the matter became so worrisome for the family of Wojúadé. In a bid to find a solution to their marginalization at different times, the Wojúadé family members sought assistance from other two families. Unfortunately, some family members of the Wojúadé were approached by the other two who have been ruling to thwart the plan of the Wojúadés. Then, it became an issue of 'Ọmọ inú ọká ló ṣe ikú pa ọká' (in-house betrayal). Recently, the Elders of the Wojúadé family went on a deep

Local Government is defined as a system of local administration under which local communities and towns which are organized to maintain law and order, provide some limited range of social services and public amenities and encourage the co-operation and participation of the inhabitants in joint endeavour towards the improvement of their living. The problems facing the local government in Nigeria are enormous. Administratively, officials of the local government have not shown quality in managing  resources of the local government. There have always been serious cases of mismanagement and corruption and these have threatened the viability and effectiveness  of the local government. Socially, the local government has become a  dumping ground for low quality staff with a very poor attitude to work. The career and political staff are lagging in their duties. Low quality councilors do not cope with law making functions and do not acquit themselves before the public. Economically, most of the

The Government is aware of Challenges facing Nigerians; Shun Violent Protest - Dr. Iziaq Salako

Image
The honourable Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako has called on the Youth to understand Federal Government and her Programmes and policies instead of clamouring for an obvious uncontrollable protest. The Minister made this call while identifying with the All Progressive Congress (APC) Youth Wing on the successful conduct of her national elections.  The Minister outlined the reasons while the Youths should shun the unplanned protest by the faceless individuals. He said, "Protest that the organisers say it would be held simultaneously in 36 state capitals and Abuja and 774 LG headquarters cannot cause anything but anarchy and chaos. A protest asking for scraping of 1999 constitution and tossing the Senate arm of the Nigerian Legislative System by executive fiat is asking for an impossible and designed to create stalemate to perpetuate the protest. A protest asking for N250,000 minimum monthly salary even when the legitimate representatives of the workers agree
