TRIPLE A’s FANTASY OF STOPPING APC’s MOVING TRAIN IN OGUN WEST
The Deputy Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State, Adekunle Akinlade, a.k.a Triple A, has a funny way of deceiving himself and his co-travellers in the PDP that he has any political might, wherewithal or popularity to stand in the way or stop the moving political train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which has gathered momentum across Ogun West.
Triple A was quoted as telling a group of PDP supporters at a campaign rally in Ipokia recently that he would conquer the APC and do everything possible to stop the APC Senatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, and others from being elected in Ogun West. He was also said to have alleged that Senator Adeola was behind how the ADC governorship candidate’s name was removed from the ballot.
Apparently, these type of empty boasts and contrived phoney allegations being made by Tripple A have only confirmed his reputation of making empty promises of things he cannot and will not do which has become his trade-mark over the years, in and outside politics. It is now the turn of the PDP, especially, the party’s governorship candidate for Akinlade to give him empty promises, right, left and centre. He continues to live under the delusion and euphoria of the influenced support he got when his now estranged political god-father, Amosun, was in government in 2019.
Akinlade and his political cohorts need to be told that 2023 is not and can never be 2019 when they leveraged on government apparatus to unleash violence on the good people of Ipokia Local Govermnt.
He needs to be told that a lot of things have changed that would daze and jolt him and his party to realize that he is a political paper weight, after all. This time around, power has changed hands with Governor Dapo Abiodun, not only being in power but also already doing so much in the Ipokia Local Government area. The Odo-Afa bridge in Agosasa which was abandoned by the Amosun administration of which Akinlade was part of has now been constructed by Governor Abiodun, just as the construction of the Ilaro-Owode road has reached advanced stage, among other strategic projects in Ipokia and Yewa South Local Government area which have endeared the Governor and APC to the people. The Senatorial candidate of the APC, Senator Adeola has also transformed the landscape of development in Ipokia and all the LGs in Ogun West with provision of transformers, street lights, construction of roads and bridges, construction of ultra-modern pavilion and town halls, support to individuals and groups, not to talk of thousands of people trained and empowered across the Senatorial District.
Presently, the impressive performance of the Governor and Senator Adeola have won over Akinlade’s core supporters, the peak of which was the recent decamping of APM and Akinlade’s Coordinator in Ipokia LG, Hon. Gondonu Babatunde Mautin, former Leader of Ipokia LG Legislative Chamber into the APC.
Tripple A must be under the illusion that Ipokia people have short memories of his unproductive eight years in government as Special Adviser and later Member of the House of Representatives. If he has any conscience, he should be going round to apologize to the people of Ipokia area now rather than go around arrogating what he does not have to himself. We can assure him that he would soon meet his waterloo in the March election.
It is also glaring that Akinlade and the PDP are still under the erroneous belief that PDP is still strong in Ogun West, whereas all the notable leaders of the party in Ogun West and throughout Ogun State have long dumped the party and teamed up with the APC. Talk of the former Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Alhaja Salimot Badru, Chief Musbau Obanla, Chief Mrs Iyabo Apampa, Alhaji Alli Ajibode, Chief Olu Agemo, Hon. Bisiriyu Popoola, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, Hon. Lai Taiwo and Chief Samuel Ayedogbon, among others. Invariably, Akinlade and co have only come to inherit a grossly depleted and weak party leaving, more or less, on past glory. Ironically, it is the same PDP that Akinlade and Ladi Adebutu colluded against to undermine late Buruji Kashamu in 2019 that they have now inherited and wish to benefit from. Of course, it is now payback time for them by supporters of Buruji Kashamu many of who have now aligned with the APC.
It would appear that the relationship between Akinlade and Adebutu who is now the Governorship Candidate has vividly underscored the fact that Akinlade had merely overrated his political might in 2019. He has now accepted to surrender the governorship to Adebutu and revert to a Deputy, where his strength can realistically take him and which he had gladly taken out of being desperate for whatever gains this ill-contrived relationship with LADO can offer.
On Akinlade’s phoney allegation that Senator Adeola was behind the removal of the ADC governorship candidate, it is pertinent to say that he should wake up to realities and stop looking for ways to curry undue favour from ADC supporters as if he cares for them. He should stop looking for excuses for his imminent defeat in the 2023 elections. It is high time Tripple A and his cohorts stopped playing politics of deceit and delusion whereby they attribute every of their self-inflicted political misfortune to YAYI. This is the time for serious candidates to go to town with their achievements and face concrete issues bothering on what they can do to fast-track the development of Ogun West, a task which YAYI and all APC candidates have committed themselves to.
Suffice it to say that Tripple A, the PDP and their political allies deserve pity and should only be advised to stop their empty boasts and stop chasing shadows. They should face the reality of their imminent defeat from which they may recover after the elections. Otherwise, they would willy-nilly lead themselves to commit the political suicide of attempting to stop the moving train of the APC in Ogun West.
